Tips for managing casuals

The Easter period sees the number of casual employees required by Australian businesses increase. Here are a few tips for managing casual workers.

1) Make sure that you periodically review casual employees’ employment at 12 months. After 12 months, casuals can request flexible working arrangements and take parental leave if it looks like the situation is set to continue. It may sometimes be necessary to make revisions to the terms of employment and move from a casual to a more permanent basis.

2) It is important that employers are mindful of their responsibilities in ensuring all workers, including casuals, have been provided with a health and safety induction and WHS training before they start work.
