The Sydney Morning Herald’s Noel Towell and Phillip Thomson recently published an article titled, ‘Australian Public Service still losing the war against sickies’ (October 23, 2014). The article highlighted evidence that many public servants are taking excessive unscheduled absence, and as a result, new ‘sickie-busting units’ are being formed to battle to get staff to show up for work each day.
